Spacemen amongst us.

A few years ago, I made this little playset.

I brought it back today in this rendition.
The spaceman helmet and air pack on his back.

 Cute little things, I think.
Come see them at the Shelburne Farmer's Market on Saturday!

beaded ladies

As a visitor to Busy Mockingbird, I came across these little cuties.

And I thought of them for months and days.
Until today. When i made some of my own.

I love when I have time to create, stretch and play.
Over the 5 ladies, I think I've found my own style.
I have some ideas for animals too.
And been thinking of what to make for boys.

I've also been sketching some new woodland creature finger puppets.
I'm excited.
I have a whole day tomorrow to play again.

Have a good one,
Amanda

favourites of the moment

Well Hello!!!
May is almost over! how did that happen?
So much has happened, that I can't put it all in here. But here's an abridged version.
Much driving, passing of a dear aunt- trip to Newfoundland, back and forthing to Halifax, friends from Toronto visiting us, different friends from Toronto visiting Halifax, working at the brewery, birthday and Victoria day Weekend, a visit from Prince Charles and Camilla, sock knitting,
arrival and putting together of furniture from Ikea!!!!
whew. Notice something is missing?
No crafting! Blah.
Maybe I can do something about that this week. Who knows?

Anyhow.. here are a few of my favourite things at the moment:

Birdhouse built by my very talented uncle. Built for me. :}
Makes me happy.
Early seasonal flowers that fit well into my mini vase collection.
My new on the counter egg holder. Purple!
New shoes for me, from me. Happy Birthday to me. Orange!

The peach tree I got for last year's Mother's Day has finally been planted by our visiting guests.
Blossoms. Maybe there will be some peaches??!
Last evening, the mosquitoes weren't out yet. We let the chickens out before dusk to wander around.
Then they happily go back in the coop for the night.
I loved turning around and seeing the warm glow from the lights inside the house.
I often don't get to see the yard from this view.
But my plans for the back grounds ( maybe next year) will make this a common view.
And another of my favourite things is this one. Hoola hooping with her curls. Growing up too fast.
I have a few more posts in my head and pictures at the ready.
Maybe I'll visit a few more times before May is over.
Have a good one,
Amanda

the tale of the dragon

Once, there was a green dragon guarding his cave.
The Red Knight stared wide eyed at the dragon

 And fainted.
 "Hey", said the dragon...
"wanna see my new teeter totter?"
The 2 knights thought that was pretty cool.
Then the dragon invited them into the cave for some yummy snacks.

Knight and dragon patterns available from Margaret's awesome book

that was fun to do in the midst of mitten making.
Another hand made gift done!

Invasion of the Ninjas

My order came! It came it came! in 2 days!
I've talked about Bear Woods Supply Inc.
I finally placed an order with them.
Can i just say... it was awesome.
Great prices, selection customer service.
They used expedited shipping in Canada for just over $10!!! In Canada! Crazy.
I got it in 2 days.
The quality of the pegs is great. Smooth wood without the flaws and
tree rings on the heads like other sources.
I can't say enough about it.
Notice the acorns on the bottom of the pic! love.
What did I do with them?
(check out the first ones I made here)
 50 Ninjas
 Looks like someone threw up a ninja rainbow! I've been waiting all day to say that! :}

I left the room for a few minutes.....
Someone had fun planning an invasion!

Have a good one!
If you're local, pop by the Mother's Day Shopping event.

for the birdies...II

This evening we took some scraps of wool roving and threads from my off cuts,
Mixed them together to get the roving nice and fluffy,

Then put them in the suet feeder as a gift to the birds to make their nests.
The suet feeder that hasn't had suet in it for some time because of a nasty racoon.
And I only put a little bit of seed in the feeder so it will be all gone in the evening. Mr. Racoon will have to find food somewhere else.
I hope the birds find their gift.
I saw this in passing on some one else's blog. If you know where... please, do tell.
In previous years, we have done this.

Happy Earth Day!

not your usual 3 pigs

Once... in a quiet little village, there were 3 low environmental impact houses. One of straw, one of twigs and one of bricks.. (the bricks were recycled from a highly protested demolished landmark)

The owners of these homes returned from a day of shopping at the local organic farmer's market.

On the edge of the meadow, not far from the windmill, (which helped them off the grid) watched a lone, cranky wolf*!

The oldest brother was worried to see the lone, cranky wolf nearby. The wolf was well known in the village and not very well liked!

The youngest brother, the outgoing, extrovert, was not afraid at all. He bought extra quinoa and beets to help round out the vegetarian stew.

So there would be plenty to eat for all!
And the wolf would get his sugar levels back and wouldn't be cranky. He's pretty nice when he's not hungry. Sometimes, he even brings dessert.

la, la, la, la, la. Happy day at Pig's Hollow!

:}
* The part of the wolf is played by a character from Margaret's bookMaking Peg Dolls

3 Little Pigs

I found this guy lurking in the woods.

This little piggy stayed home.

I have a funny feeling someone is watching us.

Gasp! There's the BIG BAD WOLF!!!

Hey Big Bear! WHere did you get that eye patch?

Friends meeting at the park for a picnic.

All these friends except for the 3 little pigs come from Making Peg Dolls.

The 3 Little Pigs will be getting a new travel case AND little houses. Wait till you see! I hope that what's in my head comes out into reality!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears playset

So I took these guys from yesterday

Put them in a box.
Goldilocks woke up to a new part of the forest with polka dotted trees and fluffy pink clouds.

The three bears met by the white picket fence.

A new playscape in a box. (all cutouts are from the old Sizzix die cuts)

Yes, it needs a house. But I think I'll make a tiny one in the back landscape by the trees.

They're hoping that Goldilocks will make some new porridge.

Today was a snow day here. The peggies and paints were out, so some new families were born.
Rafael's family

Neve's family. She gave me highlights in the back there.

Here's the whole crew. I think I need to order some new pieces. These are going fast.

Bear Woods! I'm calling soon.

Ciao,
Amanda
